Animal Care

Who We Are

Barn Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization located in Chelsea, Michigan dedicated to rescuing abused and neglected farmed animals and providing them with forever homes.

What We Do

Barn Sanctuary is home to over 140 rescued farmed animals, including goats, sheep, pigs, cows, donkeys, ducks, chickens and turkeys. All of our residents receive the highest quality of care possible and are free to live their best life. It takes a team of dedicated, hardworking humans to make it all happen and volunteers are a big part of that team.

Shelter volunteers are responsible for helping us provide a clean and safe living space for our residents. This involves mucking manure in both indoor and outdoor areas.

Volunteer Reminders:

  • Shelter volunteers are required to complete Orientations 1 and 2 before signing up for regular shifts.
  • We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of two 2-hour shifts per months.
  • Volunteering is physically demanding requiring a lot of shoveling, raking, bending, and lifting. We take your safety and well-being seriously. Please only volunteer if you are physically able.
  • We depend on volunteers to complete these daily tasks and ask that you only volunteer if you have reliable transportation to get you to your shifts.

Requirements:

  • Complete Orientations 1 and 2
  • Be physically able to lift 40 lbs
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Ages 14 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult

We love our volunteers and look forward to having you on the team!
